Total War sets sail
SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced Empire: Total War™, the revolutionary new instalment of The Creative Assembly’s wildly successful, multi award winning Total War™ RTS franchise. Empire: Total War™ will maintain the series genre leading 3D battles, grand turn based campaign map and rich historical flavour while for the first time introducing 3D naval combat into the series.

Empire: Total War™ is set in the 18th century a turbulent era that is the most requested by Total War’s™ loyal fan base and a period alive with global conflict, revolutionary fervour and technological advances. With themes such as the Industrial Revolution, America’s struggle for independence, the race to control Eastern trade routes and the globalisation of war on land and sea, Empire: Total War™ promises to be amongst the richest and most dynamic PC RTS games of all time.

Empire: Total War™ will see the debut of 3D naval combat within the Total War™ franchise. PC Gamers will be able to intuitively command vast fleets or single ships upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat. After pummelling your enemy with cannon fire, close in to grapple their ship and prepare to board taking control your men as they fight hand to hand on the decks.

Along with the revolutionary introduction of Naval Combat, Empire: Total War™ will see further enhancements to the Total War™ series signature 3D battles and turn based campaign map. Real time battles will pose new challenges with the addition of cannon and musket, challenging players to master new formations and tactics as a result of the increasing role of gunpowder within warfare. And the Campaign Map – for many the heart of Total War™ – will see new improved systems for Trade, Diplomacy and Espionage with agents, a refined and streamlined UI, improved Advisors and extended scope taking in the riches of India, the turbulence of Europe and the untapped potential of North America.

“Empire: Total War™ is a huge revolutionary step for the series. We’re delighted to introduce true 3D naval combat, something that adds a totally new dimension to Total War™ games.” commented Mike Simpson, Studio Director at The Creative Assembly and the father of the Total War™ franchise. “We’re genuinely excited about what we’re achieving with the naval battles and also by the scale of the improvements being made to the core of the game – the land battles and the campaign. This will undoubtedly be the biggest and best Total War™ game we’ve ever made.”

Empire: Total War™ has already been secretly in development at The Creative Assembly’s Horsham studio for over a year and is priming its forces for a release in 2008.

As Skarin, a new iconic gaming hero, experience the violent yet spectacular world of the Vikings and their Gods on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Sony PlayStation 3 early in 2008.

A fierce struggle is taking place within the realm of the Norse Gods. The Goddess Hel has been banished for defying Odin, Lord of Asgard. Angry at her fate, Hel has raised an army of undead warriors to enslave the mortal realm of Midgard, and then provoke Ragnarok - the apocalyptic battle that that will destroy Asgard and the Gods themselves. The task of stopping Hel and defending the future of mankind falls to Skarin, a promising but deeply flawed young warrior, ignorant of the true reason for his favour with the Gods...

Leave a bloody trail of dismembered foes as you master an involving and addictive combat style with destructive mythical powers and abilities. Explore vast and visually stunning open-world environments whilst slaying your enemies with a huge array of devastating and brutal combat moves. Tame mighty dragons and unleash their rain of fire, laying waste to the enemy hordes that stand in your way. Free enslaved warriors to wage war on Hel's legion and lead them into huge, epic battles featuring colossal giants, powerful shaman, deadly assassins and Hel's own champions. "Skarin is a cutting-edge hero in a fantastic re-imagining of Norse mythology. Skarin is obviously a very dangerous man," said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe. "Add in his inner conflict, a confused heritage and a growing distrust of the Gods and you have the makings of gaming's next great hero."

“A classic amongst classics”
In the months since Medieval II: Total War’s release, it has climbed to the top of the UK charts, and received critical acclaim from magazines and online press. In the December issue of PC Gamer (UK), they awarded the game with a fantastic 94% and a coveted Must Buy award. Hailing the game as “the most awesome thing you’ve ever seen on a PC screen”, they went on to note “Honestly there are sights in this game that combine scale, beauty and brutality so sublimely they make you want to weep” and ended the review by declaring Medieval II as “stunning, a classic amongst classics".

EuroGamer.com has awarded the game with a 9/10 rating and commented, "We can all rest safe in the knowledge that this is the best Total War yet. It's an absolute joy to take the accomplishments of Rome to the broader world, politicking and technology of the 11th to 16th centuries. Though familiar, MTWII is breathtaking in its depth, fiendishly challenging in all the right ways and a big old phlegmy spit right in the eye of anything else foolish enough to claim ownership of the strategy crown."

The US edition of PC Gamer has also been singing the game’s praises with a 90% rating and Editors Choice Award. Clearly impressed by the epic scale of the game, they commented, “The sheer number of units that can be displayed on-screen at once is truly breathtaking.”  Endorsed as “A must-buy for series vets and anyone interested in medieval-themed strategy”, they concluded, “Medieval II will blow you away”.

Medieval II Out Now!
The wait is finally over, and Medieval II: Total War is now available to purchase in the UK and rest of Europe! For more information about the game, please visit www.TotalWar.com.
